Java - Regular and Decaf

Java - Regular and Decaf

Perhaps the most important thing to remember about Java Scripts is that you can easily get "too much of a good thing". Never run more than 2 Java Scripts on the same web page as they tend to conflict with each other.

It is best to not use Java scripts at all, but if you do, dont "blind-side" your visitors. Older computers and browsers may not be capable of running todays Java scripts and applets, and some applets (like the "news Tickers") can actually crash older computers. (I run a P-5 120 with 16 meg of RAM and the whole system locks tight when I hit Java Applets.)

It is simply considered "good coding practice" to use a Cover Page if you plan to employ Frames, Java Scripts / Applets or other system demanding applications, warning the visitor of their presence and giving them an alternate page to visit. Simply put, nothing will cheese your visitors off faster than having to re-boot every time they hit your page.

Always script your pages so that Java is NOT REQUIRED! There is a web host out there that requires it's visitors to have Java Script activated or else the pages will display left justified right the way along the page. It's sick.

We arent going to actually cover the "how to write" aspect of a Java, but if you are interested in learning Java Scripting, or just want to spruce up your site, please check out the links below. I will be updating this list as I find new links.

  1. Super Scripter Builder.com is one of my favorite sites.
  2. DynamicDrive.com Virtual library of Java Scripts and DHTML.
